The Best of the Best

April 18th, 2016

Sometimes at the gym, we often give advice on what products to buy, from vitamins to protein powders to exercise gear. We do have tons of experience using different products and are usually happy to make a recommendation. We came across this site that we wanted to let you all know about. It is a review site that searches through and finds some of the best stuff for you to use. We aren’t endorsing them, we just find their recommendations incredibly useful. Instead of us doing all of the homework, this site has done it all. Here are some fitness categories that might help you purchase your next product.

Small Gym Mentality

April 11th, 2016

Gyms, like people, come in all shapes and sizes. There are different concepts for different needs. On our block of the street alone, there are five different places to work out. Some of these places are big brand names, franchises or small independently owned businesses. Chicago Family Fit offers private studio personal training for those looking for a personalized workout all under the watchful eye of a dedicated personal trainer. Often times we cater to folks who find larger facilities intimidating or overwhelming (both the people who frequent them and the equipment they have).

We feel that for those people, working out instead in a smaller setting, using less equipment more effectively and following instruction from a focused professional able to impart relevant advice specific to the exerciser’s needs, is the way to go. Another bonus is that sessions with a personal trainer are also usually booked in advance, adding accountability for the exerciser and thus greater encouragement to attend, rather than having to rely on our own (somewhat sporadic) self-motivation.

Our mission at Chicago Family Fit is pretty simple: To promote a well rounded approach to healthy lifestyle modifications for families or individuals. Through education and innovation we will help you develop a fun, comprehensive plan that works!

Whatever way you decide to get your workout in we promote health and well being. So get out and get active.

Earth Day!

April 4th, 2016

Here are a few ways to celebrate (and exercise at the same time:

Use the environmental equipment that surrounds you
Find an accessible tree branch, or use a park bench for triceps dips. You can find a public building with steps or a local stadium and get in a workout that way.

Who needs weight, we have rocks!
Grab some easily gripped rocks and do sets of bicep curls, shoulder presses, or triceps exercises. Feeling like a strongman, opt for some bigger rocks.

Use your feet (or bike or roller blades) for a day
Can you walk to work? Or maybe walk to the train or bus to get you to work. Or maybe you can walk to lunch while at work. Either way, try walking instead of driving. You save the environment a little bit.

Natural Incline
There are lots of hills around town, running hills is a great workout.

Clean up!
A great family activity is to go to the park, get some excise and clean your favorite park at the same time. Pick up litter with a purpose. If you are an expert, you can add a squat each time you pick up a piece of trash.

Enjoy our tips and have a happy Earth Day!

Spring Cleaning Essentials

February 27th, 2016

Spring cleaning is a great way to keep active even when it’s not so nice outside. Feeling clean and organized can make you feel better overall. When we talk about good diet and exercise there are also other things in your life that can affect your overall health.

We are going to help you with that today by offering you a few clean tips for the coming spring!

1. Set Goals. Goals aren’t just for exercise, they can be for cleaning to. Get a game plan together and figure out what you want to clean, when you want to clean it and how long it should take you.

2. Involve the whole family. We’ve offered this tip before, but it’s a good one. Even the young ones can pitch in and help out. It is also a good activity to keep the whole family active and involved. Remember, many hands make light work.

3. Check for supplies before you start. This is a good key to success. Make sure you have everything you need on hand to clean. There is nothing worse that running out of cleaning supplies or missing some supplies when you are in the mood to clean.

4. Breakdown the job. Your whole house might be a bit too much to tackle in one day. Break down your cleaning room by room and designate a day for each space. Don’t bite off more than you can chew for one day.

5. De-clutter. If you have less stuff around the house, you have less to clean. This is a great step to take especially before you start the house cleaning process. It is also a great way to help get rid of unwanted items. A good rule to live by is if you haven’t used it in a year, then get rid of it. Donate your unused items to your favorite charity.

6. Deep Clean. Spend the time to clean more than your regular routine. Get in every nook and cranny in your home.

7. Don’t forget about outdoor spaces. They might need a refresher as well. From driveways to sidewalks to grills leave no stone unturned.

8. Don’t forget to clean storage spaces. Sometimes those deep dark corners where you store relics, unwanted items and keepsakes need some attention too.

9. Safety. Use spring cleaning as a time to change furnace filters, batteries in smoke alarms and dryer vents. Spring is a great time to keep on top of safety around the home.

10. Have fun with is! Cleaning is a chore, but can be fun as well. Clean with music, have a contest, or treat yourself after a job well done. Either way you can make it a good time.

Hope you enjoyed the tips! Now enjoy the clean (and the Spring)!
