Get in Shape for Your Wedding!

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Congratulations on your recent engagement! But before you get overwhelmed with everything, remember that your wedding is one of the most important days of your life.  Looking your best is paramount, and wedding pictures last a lifetime.  When your on a deadline, it’s a good idea to consult with a personal trainer to make a plan.  Here are a few suggestions for brides to be:

  • Start training at least 6 months before your wedding date-It’s important because you want the majority of your weight loss to happen before your final dress fitting. The last month should focus on toning and sculpting the shoulders, back, and of course, the core region.
  • Workout with your Fiance’ or Bridesmaids! This is a great way to keep up the motivation, spend time together, and split costs. You can even work on wedding planning before or after your workouts.
  • Find a trainer that has availability around your schedule. When you are on a deadline, there is no time for missed workouts.  I suggest planning a week or two ahead to make sure that you don’t miss any sessions.
  • Meet with your trainer first! Don’t sign up or pay for anything until making sure that you and your trainer are a good fit. If this person does not motivate you, reaching your goals are nearly impossible.

Get Active As a Family this Summer!

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Getting the whole family together for exercise often poses a variety or problems, hassles, and most of the time…excuses.  With this being said, here are a few activities to do during the summer as a family.

  • Walk the dog-do this in the morning, evening, or both.  Try to go for at least 30 minutes every day.  In addition to getting some exercise, this can help your kids become more familiar with your neighborhood.
  • Wash the car- This is one activity that younger kids love to help with! Just make sure to give them a few pointers before getting started.  It also helps to clean the tires since they typically have smaller hands!
  • Volunteer with their sports teams- if your coaching, and they are playing, then you should both be tired after practice. If coaching isn’t an option, then try to do a little extra practice with them in your free time.
  • Spruce up the yard- Doing some yardwork never hurt anybody! If everyone helps mowing, pulling weeds, edging, raking, it will go that much faster!

Hopefully this gives you some ideas to get outside and be active as a family! If you have any other suggestions, please leave a comment, or contact us via email at or phone at (773) 706-8705.

Off-Season Training a Must for Youth Athletics

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Just in case you haven’t noticed, the dynamics of youth sports has changed drastically over the past few years. The days of just practicing during the season are over, and if you want to excel, they need to be training in the off-season.  This not only keeps them competitive, but decreases the risk of injuries from competing with bigger and stronger athletes. But then, another question arises, what types of workouts should they be doing?

Often times, young athletes have not developed proper technique, and only “working out” on their own will reinforce bad habits, and increase the chance for an injury from training.  At Chicago Family Fit, we work to teach and instruct in addition to lifting, coaching, and technique work.   Your best bet is to find a certified professional, but do your research first!

Things you should be looking for are:

  • Did this trainer play sports growing up? There is a big difference between training for athletics and training for weight loss or bodybuilding.

  • Does this trainer have a Degree and Certification for Athletics? At Chicago Family Fit, we posses degrees in Exercise Science and Nutrition, as well as Nationally Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, the best in the business.

  • What do others think of this company? Read our online reviews, they speak for themselves.

We are currently introducing a summer special, if you buy 10 sessions, the 11th one is free!  If you have any questions of would like to contact us, please call (773)706-8705 or email us at
